Wausau Nordic Ski Club Scholarship Procedure

In October – Contact HS Coaches to distribute Scholarship information to all ski team members. Coaches can place in their orientation packets.

Coaches should be asked the number of non-member ski families they have and be given October Newsletters to be given to those families. Families can then join the club if desired (must be a club member for at least 2 years to be eligible for a scholarship).

Scholarship Criteria is printed in the October Newsletter every year. Spring’s award recipients should also be announced in the October newsletter.

The first week in January send an email to all coaches and ask them to remind senior club members to submit their scholarship request by January 31st (or earlier if determined by The Board). Application letters should be submitted by email (to the club president) for distribution to the Board members as well as in paper form to the PO address. Criteria is on the website and in the October Newsletter.

The Board determines number and dollar amount of scholarships on a yearly basis at the February Board meeting.

The Board (along with coaches) determines recipients for that year by reviewing the requests and ranking them. The highest ranking requests receive the scholarship(s). The Van Ert Scholarship is given to the highest ranked request.

Emails are sent to parents/athletes requesting the honor of their presence at the Wausau Nordic ski Club’s Awards night (see example).

Scholarship letters are prepared (see example) and checks are written by the treasurer.

Scholarships are presented at the Wausau Nordic Ski Club Awards night in March. Copies of the application letters of recipients are placed on the counter the night of awards for people to read if they so chose

Recipients are recorded on the Club Log & all application letters are placed in file box

Each School’s Guidance Counselor is contacted to give the school information that a scholarship was given. State whether it was the Van Ert (administered through the Wausau Nordic Ski Club) or a Wausau Nordic Ski Club Scholarship. The school will announce at Senior Recognition/Awards and print in the Wausau Daily Herald when they do the graduate insert in June. You can find updated information on each school’s website to obtain individual counselor’s names/email addresses.
