Get out on the trails before the temps get too high in the afternoon and enjoy terrific spring skiing. As of today there are NO bare spots and no problem using my good skies. Even the south facing hills have a good base! 2/5/08 Classic tracks are rock solid! Skating is super! 1/16/08 The trails are in great shape! The best of the season. 3-6 inches of snow in on the way for Thursday. Unfortunately plummeting temps will follow. 1/11/08 The trials are in very good shape and have continued to improve with the additional grooming this week and a fresh inch of snow today. The base is 3" of hard pack and a good surface on top. 6-9" of snow in the woods. 1/9/2008 The trail held up great from the warm/wet weather. It is now refrozen and in good condition. The condition of the trail did vary quite a bit, all depending on how much time the grooming equipment spent on each segment. Sections that had multiple passes, the snow was rejuvenated and in great shape. Those sections with fewer passes were very skiable but will improve with more work from the groomer. No rocks, ice, or bare spots, some hard/rutted sections. Perry Dau This year there were 3 days of Trail work (2 besides the main trail clean-up on the 20th). Thanks to John Howard and Greg Kresse for organizing the digging/tree trimming events. The tree trimming and rock removal is especially important now with low snow years and preparing the trails to be skiable on a 4 inch base. “Snow Farming” is a new concept we are incorporating into the trail work. When tree limbs (especially pine boughs) are trimmed back from the trail, they allow for additional snow to fall where we need it for skiing (on the trail, not the trees). Kudos go to the Martin/Hinueber team for removing a rock that took “6 people” to roll off the trail. Your skis will be safer for the effort, but do I now need to look out for gigantic holes when I ski that I will fall into and have to crawl out of??!! New rocks surface every year, so there should still be work for years to come! Thanks to all who participate.
